How did you meet Cyn?
A mutual fried introduced me to Cyn in 2023. I was looking for a program where I could train to become a service dog trainer. After about a 30 minute conversation with where I explained my passion to work with dogs and help veterans and first responders, she invited me to come watch a Sunday training session and the rest is history. I am currently in my second year of my training with Cyn to ultimately be a service dog trainer. It has been an amazing and rewarding experience thus far and I am excited to continue.
How long have you had dogs and what do you love most them?
I have had dogs all of my life. It started with a black lab puppy, Rufy, that I grew up with. What I love most is their unconditional love. They are always happy to see you, whether it has been 5 minutes or 5 hours. They just know when you need them. There is nothing like that big head in your lap and the soulful eyes that say “I’m here for you.”
How long have you been helping with training and what do you love most about it?
I have been helping with training for over a year. I love working with new puppies and watching them be excited because their owner is excited as they go through the exercises. I also love when I can help an owner who is feeling frustrated that their dog isn’t “getting it” feel less frustrated and hopeful. Often by adjusting something small, be it changing the treat type or the tone of the voice or the body language the dog will respond and “get” what is being asked of them. The owner then relaxes and it becomes fun for both of them again.
What other dog related activities do you do?
I am currently training through Cyn’s program to become a service dog trainer to work with veterans, first responders and others dealing with PTSD, TBI, mobility and other needs.
